The Botswana & Zambia 2019 project is a family led initiative which was formed from a desire to offer an alternative option to main stream companies which entice school leavers to consider volunteering at the end of their schooling life. The family connection to Botswana & Zambia past and present was key to conceptualising the idea for the project.
The idea was to provide a cost effective, authentic grassroots experience to a life changing volunteering experience that their son could share with friends.
The project management of the trip is being undertaken by the Wright family (Karen & Jimmy), who are a family based in Bearsden, Glasgow and have one son Tiaan who is in his 6th and final year of schooling at Bearsden Academy.
A team consisting of 7 childhood friends all in their final year of school at Bearsden Academy and 4 dads will head to Botswana and Zambia in July 2019 for the duration of 1 month ( Check out our Itinerary). At the heart of the trip will be a 10 day stay at the Home for AIDS Orphans organisation, a charity based in Mwandi, Zambia where the team will work with other volunteers and charity workers to support the local community build mud huts that will provide a safe and stable home for children and families affected by the AIDs pandemic that continues to sweep across the country. The team also hope to further support Home fAO by raising enough funds to cover in part or full the cost of building a much needed 2nd classroom facility (Just Give link)
